We fight to help more men to survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men and provide vital information. We find answers by funding research. And we lead change, raising awareness and improving care.
The Service Development Team
In the UK:
• African Caribbean men are three times more likely to develop prostate cancer than white men of the same age and
• detection of prostate cancer is lower amongst men from lower socio-economic groups, and prostate cancer outcomes are poorer
Despite this, we know that prostate cancer awareness and uptake of services are lower amongst both groups and that cultural differences exist regarding perceptions of prostate cancer and access to information and services.
The Service Development Team delivers awareness and support services for these groups as specific pilots and research projects. These will be carefully evaluated to better understand the impact of this work and to inform future service delivery.
The Service Evaluation Volunteer role
The Service Evaluation Volunteer will be working specifically on the Helpline Evaluation Project. 500 surveys were sent to helpline users asking for feedback. As part of the evaluation process the survey data needs to be inputted into a data entry programme.
• Reading and interpreting data
• Data entry into a data entry programme (such as Excel or SPSS)
• Calling service users and taking them through surveys over the phone
• General filing and administrative tasks
Location and hours
Flexible hours, based in our London Office in Hammersmith
• An introduction to the work of Prostate Cancer UK
• Relevant ad hoc training as required
We pay reasonable out-of-pocket expenses including travel and refreshments while volunteering in line with our expenses policy.

We are looking for any massage therapists or trainees who could help out Teenage Cancer Trust on the day of the Great North Run on Sunday 15th September 2013. We will have around 100 people running for us and would like to thank our lovely runners for putting in so much effort, and we hope you may be willing to help us do that. When they have finished the race we are inviting our runners to a post-race reception where we will be offering them free leg massages in our Teenage Cancer Trust Marquee in the Charity Village near the finish line at South Shields. We are looking for massage therapists in the area who would be able to bring their own massage tables and would be willing to volunteer their time from roughly 12-6pm on Sunday. It would be a great opportunity for trainee masseurs to practice their newly acquired skills and help contribute to the £45,000 we aim to raise from the event. If you know anyone who you think might be willing to help us out, please ask them to get in touch with us ASAP. We would be more than happy to distribute any marketing material you provide us with at the cool down party as a thank you.
What You Need to Know:
• You would be needed on Sunday 15th September 2013 from 12-6pm in the Teenage Cancer Trust marquee in the charity village by the finish line near South Shields.
• We need 2-3 therapists, but we would be happy to have more than two if you wish to share the hours.
• We will pay your travel expenses
• You will need to bring your own tables and equipment, but we’re happy to courier them to the venue for you if necessary
• If you require any further information please contact us

We need someone to keep our website up to date. We are now working in a fast moving environment and have a lot going on! All great but our website needs quite a lot of content changing initially and then it's a case of just keeping it up to date as and when changes are required. Skills needed are someone who has worked on CMS systems before and is accurate. Ability to use Photoshop would be a bonus as our photos need formatting correctly for the site.
